The lab offers cross training opportunities and the opportunity to be part of cross-function process improvement teams.
In Fiscal Year 2021, the lab performed 4.
2 million tests (including 72,892 Anatomical Pathology tests, 189,392 SARS-COV2 tests, and 157,315 inpatient phlebotomy draws).
The department consists of over 190 medical laboratory professionals.

Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Assistant works within compliance and regulatory parameters while completing the receipt, registration, order entry and labeling of a large volumes of specimens in the appropriate computer system.
In addition, the position may include accountabilities as resolving specimen submission issues, managing a large volume of telephone calls, filing and distribution of patient information, maintaining logs and scanning documents into the electronic medical record.
If applicable, may be responsible for operating and performing regular preventative maintenance and basic trouble shooting on a variety of departmental instruments and may require the acquired knowledge of esoteric test requests by physicians and involve order entry and processing of these specimens including assisting with specimen handling at FNA and biopsy procedures.
All aspects of this position must be performed with complete accuracy due to the direct impact on patient care.
The laboratory assistant works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines.
2 Lab Assistant Opportunities Available - One for Cytology and one for Histology:
Cytology Lab Assistant:
M-F 8AM-4:
30PM; Generally No Weekends or Holidays (When holiday falls on 3-day weekend, there is a requirement to work for a few hours to process sensitive specimens) Histology Lab Assistant:
M-F 9:
30PM-6PM; No Weekends or Holidays
Qualifications:
Education Requirements High School Diploma or GED Required Skills Computer Skills to include use and navigation Detail Oriented Excellent Communications Skills Medical Terminology Multitasking.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
